The Lombard Method
Opens 5–9pm Friday 21 October 2011
12–5pm 22–30 October 2011
The Lombard Method, 68a Lombard Street, Birmingham. B12 0QR
As part of The Event 2011, The Lombard Method will be stripped of its studios and transformed into a point of dialogue between organisations and artists from across the UK.
Borrowing aspects from festivals, world fairs, and biennials, The Lombard Method aims to represent a history of dialogues and supportive networks developed during its first 2 years of activity, whilst also looking forward to aspirational models with the hope of future engagement.
The project brings together Bristol Diving School, David Dale Gallery, g39, Generator Projects, Ikon Gallery, John Walter, Malgras|Naudet, Meantime, Rhubaba and S1 as well as including space for The Lombard Method to exist within its own walls. Ongoing dialogues with these organisations will develop not only the content of the exhibition, but also the physical structures that will house this content. The parameters of these discussions will direct some organisations to be represented by the curatorial autonomy of a physical space, whilst others will foreseeably produce ‘objects of dialogue’, film screenings, and/or events which will flow throughout The Lombard Method.
The Lombard Method is an independently run studio and project space led by seven Birmingham based artists. Functioning primarily as a large communal studio with flexible project spaces, the objectives of the group are to develop individual practice through critical dialogue and group interaction, and to engage with other artists through a programme of residencies, exhibitions, and events.
